Y & R picks up Dr Pepper in UK in global realignment

Published on .

LONDON -- Schweppes Europe has handed the $12.4m U.K. account for its Dr Pepper soft drink to Young & Rubicam London. Y & R knocks Saatchi & Saatchi off the business which it has held for under a year. But Zenith has kept its grasp on the media.

The move puts Dr Pepper in the hands of Y & R across the whole of Europe and in the U.S., where the agency has a 27 year hold on the business. Y & R won the European account in May, but this excluded the U.K., where the brand, until recently, has been marketed by the now defunct CCSB joint venture between Coca-Cola and Cadbury Schweppes.

Dr Pepper, the world's fourth biggest non-cola soft drink, came to the U.K. in 1982 but has so far made little sales impact.
