Yahoo! to advertise on Oscars show

Published on .

Yahoo!, Santa Clara, Calif., has become the first pure Internet company to advertise on ABC's "72nd Academy Awards" broadcast, airing Sunday. The spot, created by Black Rocket, San Francisco, also ran in January and promotes Yahoo! Shopping. It's about a guy who lives in a trailer in the middle of nowhere. An asteroid is headed toward his little town so he gets on Yahoo! Shopping and buys a ton of pillows. He survives because the asteroid lands on the pillows. Computer company SAP and its Web site, and General Motor Corp. Web site gmbuypower.com have already made TV commercial commitments to the Oscars broadcast.
