Yahoo! alights on Publicis, Optimedia

Published on .

LONDON -- Yahoo!, the Internet search engine founded in California in 1994, has appointed Publicis and its media operation Optimedia to its account across Europe.

The appointment reflects a concerted expansion program from a base of the U.K., France and Germany, that saw the company launch in Sweden, Denmark and Norway last week. Roll-out into "many more" additional markets is expected throughout 1998.

Yahoo! claims now to have 25 million users worldwide and to be ranked the No. 1 single largest search and navigational site on the Web.
