Yahoo! has signed a deal with free Internet access provider Spinway
to offer co-branded dial-up access to marketers. Yahoo! already offers free dial-up access through Spinway for Kmart Corp.'s Bluelight.com online service, which has accumulated 2.5 million subscribers since launching 6 months ago. Yahoo! and Spinway also offer a free service through the Spiegel catalog, which sells women's apparel and home furnishings. Through this deal, Spinway will be the preferred dial-up access provider for Yahoo!'s advertisers. In exchange, Yahoo! will provide personalized content for the branded Internet services, including Yahoo! Mail and Yahoo! Messenger. Yahoo!'s sales force will also sell an undisclosed percentage of ad inventory across the Spinway network. Separately, Spinway provides dial-up services to OurHouse.com, the online service for Ace Hardware, and NBC's online unit NBCi. In other Yahoo! news, the portal introduced a personalized shopping service on Yahoo! Shopping
. It allows users to create a customized shopping portal, tabbing favorite online stores and purchasing information. It also upgraded its search functions, integrating new search partner Google into its Web search services, and introducing new features such as Inside Yahoo! and Most Popular Sites.
