Yahoo! reports $9.5 mil in revenue for Q1

Published on .

Yahoo! on Wednesday reported revenues of $9,515,000 for the first quarter ended March 31, up more than 400% from $1,733,000 for the first quarter of fiscal year 1996. The company was profitable for a second straight quarter, reporting $210,000 in net income.

While Yahoo! experienced impressive year-on-year growth, it's less attractive on a quarter-to-quarter basis. Revenues were up only 12% from the fourth quarter's $8.5 million. Revenues rose 55% from the third quarter to the fourth. Yahoo! is highly dependent on advertising for revenues, and the first quarter was slow across the Internet. Most Internet publishers expect growth from the first to second quarter to pick up substantially.
