Yahoo! signs deal with AT&T, picks Inktomi over AltaVista

In a distribution deal announced May 18 AT&T Corp. becomes the premier provider of long-distance services on Yahoo!, including domestic and international long-distance services, toll-free services, AT&T Calling Cards, AT&T Prepaid Cards and AT&T Wireless Services. Yahoo! and AT&T also announced a trial of Internet-based communications services, such as voice-enabled chat.

In related news, Yahoo! announced technology company Inktomi will provide the default search engine services for Yahoo!. The co-branded service will be called Yahoo! Search Results by Inktomi. Inktomi provides the search technology for HotBot, the search engine of Wired Digital. Digital Equipment Corp.'s AltaVista was formerly the default service on Yahoo!, and will remain as a search option on the Web directory.
