Young London agency wins global Wedgwood account

LONDON -- Wedgwood, the china brand owned by Irish-based crystal and china marketer Waterford Wedgwood, has awarded an estimated $12m creative and strategic advertising account on a worldwide basis to young London agency, Mustoe Merriman Herring & Levy. No decision has been made on the media account.

The luxury brand's main markets are Japan and Japanese tourists in Continental Europe, the U.S., the U.K and the rest of the world. Agency Chief Executive Nick Mustoe says the London agency is looking at the possibility of working with a Japanese agency to adapt work created in London. The London agency's other international clients include Bacardi Martini (agency for Europe on Bacardi Spice) and TNT & Cartoon Network in Europe. It also handles the Welsh Development Agency account on a worldwide basis.

Until last September the creative account was with London agency Bartle Bogle Hegarty. BBH's Motive handles media. Three London agencies in addition to the winner participated in the strategic review: Barker & Ralston, Butterfield Day Devito Hockney and BST BDDP. There was a final creative shootout between Mustoe Merriman Herring & Levy and BST BDDP.
