Ziff restructures business units

As part of a restructuring, Ziff-Davis Publishing Co. created a new business unit, U.S. Publications, that will include the Business Media Group (PC Magazine, Computer Shopper, MacWeek, etc.) and its Consumer Media Group (Computer Life, Family PC and Computer Gaming World). The magazine networks will also fall into the new group.

Ronnie Sonnenberg, president of business media, will become president of U.S. Publications. Claude Sheer, exec VP of business media will succeed her.

As part of the restructuring, the company has also created a new group, Interactive Media and Development, which consists of ZD Net and the newly created Internet Publishing Group. The Cobb Group, a newsletter publisher and the Logical Operations, a producer of training manuals and seminars, will be combined in a third unit called the Training and Support Publishing Group.

Separately on Thursday, Ziff-Davis opened USWeb Corp., providing businesses with Internet access, online computing information, links to Web sites and ad sales assistance. Ziff and its parent, SoftBank, invested $13 million to launch USWeb.
