Chairman-CEO Howard Draft said Mr. Zuckert's hiring and two internal promotions were in part a response to a 25% increase in billings this year to $655 million. "To successfully continue at this growth rate, we need leaders like Don on board so that the rest of the management team can remain focused on our clients' needs."
Mr. Zuckert, 61, began his career in 1960 with Bates, which was sold to Saatchi & Saatchi Co., now Cordiant, in August 1986 for $507 million. He served as president of Bates New York for three years, then as chairman-CEO until 1987. Since 1988, he has been chairman-CEO of Arcature Corp., a Stamford, Conn.-based investment and marketing consultancy. He will be based in New York.
Mr. Draft said Mr. Zucker would supervise the company's operational needs and "provide strategic, general advertising insight for those client marketing programs that incorporate brand-enhancing, image-oriented approaches."
"Independent companies face a number of operational and financial issues that can, at times, distract senior management from focusing on the heart of their business-client services," Mr. Zuckert said. "It is my hope that combined advertising, business, financial and legal expertise will help DraftDirect progress along its strategic course and lend strength to the agency's management team."
DraftDirect also announced Lynn Fantom, 42, was being promoted to vice chairman of the New York office from president; her successor is David Florence, 42, who had been exec VP-general manager.
