Walgreen Co., as part of a management reorganization, said Jeffrey A. Rein, 50, currently executive vice president of marketing, in January will take over as president and chief operating officer. He replaces the drug chain's president-CEO, David W. Bernauer, who becomes chairman.
Mr. Rein, 50, who holds a pharmacy degree, has worked with Walgreens since 1982. In February, he assumed his marketing post, heading up the company's merchandising, advertising and marketing departments.
Craig Sinclair continues as Walgreen's vice president of advertising, overseeing day-to-day marketing operations.
A Walgreens spokesman said he expected the company to announce as soon as this week a replacement for Mr. Rein. The spokesman said it was not certain whether the appointee would hold Mr. Rein's former title of executive vice president of marketing.
