Russ Klein, Jeffrey Rein Named to New Posts

SAN FRANCISCO (AdAge.com) -- With the economy laboring and consumers holding onto their wallets, two of the nation's leading retailers today overhauled their marketing ranks.

7-Eleven today named Russ Klein managing director of marketing. Mr. Klein most recently worked with private investment and professional services firm Whisper Capital Investments, Chicago.

A veteran of Bcom3 Group's Leo Burnett Co., Mr. Klein was also executive vice president and managing director of Interpublic Group of Cos.' Foote, Cone & Belding Worldwide. Mr. Klein also held senior marketing positions at Seven Up U.S.A., and Dr Pepper/Seven Up Cos.

Walgreen Co., as part of a management reorganization, said Jeffrey A. Rein, 50, currently executive vice president of marketing, in January will take over as president and chief operating officer. He replaces the drug chain's president-CEO, David W. Bernauer, who becomes chairman.

Mr. Rein, 50, who holds a pharmacy degree, has worked with Walgreens since 1982. In February, he assumed his marketing post, heading up the company's merchandising, advertising and marketing departments.

Craig Sinclair continues as Walgreen's vice president of advertising, overseeing day-to-day marketing operations.

A Walgreens spokesman said he expected the company to announce as soon as this week a replacement for Mr. Rein. The spokesman said it was not certain whether the appointee would hold Mr. Rein's former title of executive vice president of marketing.
