This year's Marketing 50 range from Steve Jobs and his stunningly successful iPod and iTunes products and promotions to Fox Searchlight Pictures' Nancy Utley, who headed the team that turned Bend It Like Beckham into a smash hit at the box office. Each of the selected marketers have shown a high level of courage and skill in being able to develop ideas that may not have been initially easy to sell. Their determination in seeing their vision through is one of the elements that has set them apart in their respective industries.

To define each year's honorees, the editors of Advertising Age pulled together an expansive list of marketers responsible for brand success stories. Then, using intelligence gathered by Ad Age reporters across the country, as well as other sources of account, advertising and product sales data, the list is winnowed down to 50 key marketers.

These top 50 marketers then become that very thing: the Top 50 whose work and achievements exemplify the very meaning of excellence in advertising.
