John Partilla, who spent the past 18 years
Brand Buzz eventually became the ninth-largest office of the Y&R agency network and last month became a stand-alone entity, now one of Young & Rubicam's "Brands."
A spokeswoman for Time Warner said Mr. Partilla's title will be senior vice president and president of global marketing. Mr. Partilla could not be reached for comment.
Rick Eiserman, senior vice president of marketing for Young & Rubicam Brands, was named CEO of Brand Buzz.
At Time Warner Mr. Partilla, 39, succeeds Michael J. Kelly, who in January moved from his post as president of the global marketing solutions group -- the division Mr. Partilla will lead -- to run advertising sales at Time Warner's America Online. Mr. Partilla will report to Don Logan, chairman of media and communications.
Mining ranks of ad execs
The media company in recent years sought to hire executives with advertising agency experience to develop cross-platform deals for its advertisers. In 2002 Time Warner hired William Grogan, a senior-vice president of marketing at Interpublic Group of Cos.' McCann Erickson, who reported to Mr. Kelly. Mr. Grogan's tenure was short. He left in March 2003 to become president of WPP's Berlin Cameron/Red Cell, New York.
For Mr. Partilla, moving to Time Warner is a significant change for him as well as Young & Rubicam Brands. He rose through the ranks at Y&R Advertising, the global agency network, where he spent time in account management and new business before founding Brand Buzz in 2000. In addition to Brand Buzz, Mr. Partilla led Y&R's Sony Consumer Electronics account, which will now be overseen by David Murphy, head of Y&R Advertising, Irvine and Detroit. The Sony account is split between Y&R's Irvine and New York offices.
