Carol Smith became senior VP-chief brand officer of the Elle Group. She will oversee advertising and sales for Elle and Elle.com, as well as Elle's editorial department. Ms. Smith came to Elle in 2002 as senior VP-group publishing director and has since expanded the brand to include newsstand specials; retail and entertainment divisions; numerous TV partnerships, including Bravo's "Project Runway"; a relaunch of Elle.com; and Elle's own TV series, "Stylista." Under her direction, Elle made Advertising Age's A-List in 2006, 2007 and 2008. Ms. Smith was named Ad Age's Executive of the Year in 2008 and Magazine Publisher of the Year by The Delaney Report in 2009.
Davie Brown Entertainment, part of The Marketing Arm, tapped digital-entertainment and marketing veteran Lewis Henderson as CEO. Mr. Henderson was most recently head of William Morris' digital practice and left the agency last month after nearly 20 years. At William Morris, Mr. Henderson drove a number of the industry's most notable technology and media partnerships, most recently working with Habbo, the largest virtual world for tweens, and negotiating deals with Fremantle's "American Idol" and NBC's "Heroes." In his new post, he will be charged with expanding Davie Brown's offerings to include digital marketing and entertainment strategy.
Lifetime Networks hired Michelle Strong as VP-national accounts. Before joining Lifetime, Ms. Strong was senior director of national accounts at Disney and ESPN Media Networks in New York. Ms. Strong was with BET from 1999 to 2005, most recently as VP-affiliate and international sales.
DraftFCB, Chicago, has named three of its leaders senior VPs. Cari Bucci, who joined the agency in 2003 as an account supervisor, became senior VP-group management director, Qwest. Gigi Carroll was named senior VP-creative director. She came to DraftFCB in 2001 as VP-concept director. And Julio Desir was promoted to senior VP-creative director from VP. He started at the agency in 2002.
Nashville-based marketing-communications agency Buntin Group has named former Euro RSCG Worldwide Group Account Director Fred Saunders exec VP-director of account management. Theresa Chang, previously group media director at DraftFCB, is joining the company as senior VP-director of media planning.
Michael Kramer has been named senior VP-client services at integrated-marketing-solutions agency BFG. In this new position, he will lead the client-services team in providing strategic direction for the agency's Diageo business. Mr. Kramer brings more than 17 years of experience in the beer, wine and spirits industry. Most recently, he served as senior VP-client services at U.S. Concepts/MKTG.
Proximity Canada hired Collin Douma as VP-social media. In the newly created role, he will identify opportunities to expand the social-media offering at the interactive, relationship and direct-marketing services agency. Mr. Douma has more than 14 years of experience developing digital-advertising programs for world-class brands and agencies. Most recently, he was senior strategic counselor at Hill & Knowlton Canada, providing counsel and strategy on social-media and digital programs for clients including WarChild Canada, Motorola, Hewlett-Packard and Intel.
