Diane Potter to senior VP-consumer marketing, a new post at Gruner & Jahr USA Publishing, New York, from VP-magazine circulation, American Express Publishing Corp. Ms. Potter will oversee circulation and consumer marketing functions across all Gruner & Jahr titles. She is the first major appointment by new Gruner & Jahr President-CEO Dan Brewster (AA, June 5). Mr. Brewster and Ms. Potter worked together at AmEx Publishing.

Judy Fearing to chief marketing officer, Upromise, Brookline, Mass., from exec VP-interactive businesses, Walt Disney Co., Burbank, Calif., Upromise is the new relationship marketing venture headed by Digitas founder Michael Bronner (AA, May 29).

Nina Abnee to exec VP-account director on General Motors Corp.'s Oldsmobile account at Leo Burnett USA, Chicago, from senior VP-account director for McCann-Erickson Worldwide's regional GM Buick account in Naperville, Ill. She succeeds Neil Lichtman, who retired. Also on Burnett's Olds account: Charley Wickman, VP-creative director, succeeds Dan Hege, who also retired, as lead creative.

Gordon Lee Jones to publisher, Ziff Davis Smart Business, from exec VP-trade division at Fairchild Publications, New York. He succeeds Greg Mason, who left. Mr. Jones will be based in New York.

John Elder, 35, to group account director, a new post at Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, San Francisco, from director of interactive services. Also to new posts as group account directors: Rene Cournoyer, John Coyne and Marty Wenzell, from account directors.

Sean Skelley to VP-marketing for services, a new post at Best Buy Co., Eden Prairie, Minn., from regional manager, marketing director and VP-services. In the new job, Mr. Skelley will create customer loyalty services.

Steve Spencer to VP-creative director, a new post at Barkley Evergreen & Partners, Kansas City, Mo., from associate creative director, Temerlin McClain, Irving, Texas. Also: Brian Vetter to VP-creative director, a new post, from VP-associate creative director, Holland Mark Edmunds Ingalls, Boston.
