An agency spokeswoman confirmed the departure of John Staffen and said a replacement is being sought. Mr. Staffen was co-executive creative director with John Russo. The spokeswoman said the position a replacement would ultimately fill may be restructured.
DDB's chairman and chief creative officer, Lee Garfinkel, who joined the agency in March from Publicis Groupe's D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles, was in client meetings and could not be reached for comment.
Mr. Staffen, 43, did not immediately return calls to his office. He has worked on and off at the DDB for the past 18 years and had been working on clients such as New York State Lottery and Hershey. He is also a former global creative director on McDonald's Corp. business.
