CHICAGO (AdAge.com) -- DraftWorldwide has promoted its director of new business to chief marketing officer, a new position for the direct marketing agency.

Tony Weisman joined the Interpublic Group of Cos. agency in mid-2002 to lead the business development team as well as the agency's strategic planning unit, which he will continue to oversee.

Before joining DraftWorldwide, Mr. Weisman, 42, was a senior vice president and account director at Publicis Groupe's Leo Burnett USA, Chicago, where he worked on the accounts for McDonald's Corp., Reebok and General Motors Corp.

Brought in 20 new accounts
DraftWorldwide won a whopping 20 assignments in 2002, including the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, Coors Brewing, DeVry University, Brite Smile and Monster.com. The agency credits Mr. Weisman for some of that success.

"Tony has had a major impact on the Chicago agency since joining us last year," Yvonne Furth, president of DraftWordwide, Chicago, said in a statement.

Mr. Weisman said he plans to push DraftWorldwide's integration strengths to further build the agency.

"Virtually every pitch of consequence starts with a single discipline, so we'll continue to make sure our ability to deliver in those disciplines is state of the art," Mr. Weisman told Adage.com. "But what we bring to the party is an integrated suite of solutions that is, frankly, best in class. ... Clients are quickly impressed to find out we have other capabilities and that's where they open up [the scope of services]."
