Terri Melkonian was elevated to VP-sales, marketing and corporate communications at Sunset Gower Studios, Hollywood, Calif. Ms. Melkonian joined the firm 10 months ago as VP-sales and marketing.

Richard V. Hopple was named president and CEO of Carmel, N.Y.-based publishing company Guideposts. Mr. Hopple, who was most recently chairman-CEO at Unicast, replaces the retiring John Temple.

PepsiCo appointed a pair of key execs to new roles. Todd Magazine, 43, became president of the company's Gatorade division. His former post, Quaker Foods president, will be filled by Mark Schiller, 46, who most recently served as senior VP-general manager of PepsiCo's Frito-Lay North America Convenience Foods. Both executives will be based in Chicago.

Dorothy Young took on the role of chief operating officer at online publisher SilverCarrot, New York. Previously, she was chief client operations officer at Ogilvy North America.

Andy Spillane joined AOL as VP-product development for messaging and social media. He moves to the Dulles, Va., company from Yahoo, where he oversaw the company's e-mail business.

Curt Glowacki, who recently resigned from his position as president at Outback Steakhouse, returned to his former employer: Houston-based Mexican Restaurants Inc. Mr. Glowacki will assume the role of president-CEO at MRI.

New York-based Essence magazine brought on Karen Williams as associate publisher-marketing. She had been VP-integrated marketing and promotion for Disney's ABC Family cable network.
