Mr. Checkeris succeeds Dene Callas, who is moving to the newly created position of global director-creative. Both appointments are effective Oct. 1.
Significant growth at agency
Agency officials credit Mr. Checkeris with pushing significant growth at MediaCom Canada during his tenure. According to Recma (Research Company Evaluating the Media Agency Industry), MediaCom Canada grew by more than $70 million in 2006, the largest growth by any media agency in that country.
"Doug has an impressive track record and intimately knows the MediaCom network, tools and culture," Alexander Schmidt-Vogel, MediaCom worldwide chairman-CEO, said in a statement. "We are confident that Doug will bring our U.S. business to a new level of success."
Mr. Checkeris started his career as a media trainee at MBS, the forerunner to MediaCom, in Canada 24 years ago. He joined the management committee in 1986 and was named managing partner in 1996. He will relocate from Toronto to New York in his new position.
Ms. Callas, a nearly 30-year veteran of MediaCom USA, has been CEO of the agency since 2002. In her new role, she'll be responsible for leading MediaCom's creative approach to media communication throughout the world, Mr. Schmidt-Vogel said.
"Dene is an amazing strategist, and extremely creative," Mr. Schmidt-Vogel said. "Through her new role, we will push the limits on MediaCom's creative capabilities throughout the world."
