NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- Jean Pool, president of operations at WPP Group's MindShare, said she has resigned her job and expects to move to Interpublic Group of Cos.' Universal McCann as executive vice president and director of North American operations, a new position.

Murray Dudgeon, Universal McCann's executive vice president of worldwide operations director, has been overseeing the North America region for the media agency until now. Ms. Pool is expected to report to Robin Kent, CEO of Universal McCann Worldwide. Although a full service media agency, Universal McCann is closely aligned with sibling creative shop McCann-Erickson Worldwide.

an influential media agency executive, is another piece of the management puzzle to fall out from MindShare. The shop was created by fusing the media departments of WPP agencies J. Walter Thompson and Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide, a process that was said to be difficult as many top WPP executives, including Ogilvy Chairman-CEO Shelly Lazarus and Ms. Pool, were said to have been very reluctant to take the media functions out of the original agencies.

The unbundling of agency media operations was ordered by WPP Chief Executive Martin Sorrell, who brought in Irwin Gotlieb from McManus Group's MediaVest, where he was chairman-CEO, to be CEO of the new MindShare.

Original management team
Ms. Pool was part of an original MindShare management troika established by Mr. Gotlieb in April 2000 that included Ray Simko, president of strategic planning, and Peter Chrisanthopoulos, president of national broadcast and programming. Mr. Chrisanthopoulos left the media shop in November 2000 to take a position at Hispanic network Azteca America as president-chief operating officer. Marc Goldstein, previously executive vice president and managing director at Interpublic's GM Mediaworks, replaced him.

Before MindShare, Ms. Pool was executive vice president and director of North American media services at WPP's J. Walter Thompson.
