Jerry Elliott has been named chief financial officer/chief administrative officer for The Weather Channel Cos. In this newly created role, he will have overall responsibility for the company's finance, legal, administrative and human-resources functions. He will be based at the company's Atlanta headquarters and report to Michael J. Kelly, CEO of TWCC. Mr. Elliott was previously chief financial officer of Virgin Media and has also served as CFO and chief operating officer of Cengage Learning, as well as CEO and president of Global Signal.
PowerPact Holdings, owner of consumer promotion agency PowerPact and digital video solutions company TouchStorm, has hired Robert Mazzucchelli to serve as chief strategy officer. Mr. Mazzucchelli began his career with the formation of Pinnacle Promotions, a marketing and sports sponsorship consultancy. After selling Pinnacle, he joined Saatchi & Saatchi's Bates Worldwide, where he founded 141 USA, which became 141 Worldwide. He later worked for Clear Channel Entertainment (now Live Nation) as exec VP-global. Most recently, he was founder and CEO of 2M Apparel Ventures, LLC, a men's apparel company.
Vault.com has appointed Claude Sheer as CEO. Mr. Sheer recently served as interim CEO at Beliefnet.com before helping to sell it to News Corp. in 2007. He has also served on the boards of companies ranging from Lionbridge Technologies to MenuPages.com. For most of the 80's and 90's, he worked at Ziff-Davis, where he managed its largest operating division, Z-D Publishing. Mr. Sheer later went on to found a venture capital firm, investing in businesses including TheNewsMarket, LiveWave and EnvoyWorldWide.
TBA Global has appointed Jim McDonald senior VP-consumer engagement strategist. For the past four years, Mr. McDonald served as president of CornerStone Marketing, working with a variety of clients on projects that included marketing programs in China and new product launches in the U.S. Earlier in his career, he was chief marketing officer for the U.S. Paralympics and director-integrated sales for the USOC.
Carat has tapped Walt Cheruk as exec VP-head of digital. He was previously senior VP-client solutions at Discovery Networks. He also spent time at Modern Media, where he was senior VP-global media services, managing accounts for companies such as Kraft, Delta Airlines, Heineken, Sony and Mars, and later supervised integration efforts in partnership with Digitas and PublicisModem. Additionally, Mr. Cheruk has directed digital sales and marketing at National Geographic and Hearst's Women.com.
Online advertising network Brand.net has hired Jay Beckley as VP-central, part of the company's expansion of its Midwestern operations. Mr. Beckley comes to Brand.net from Yahoo, where he was regional VP for almost 10 years. At Yahoo, he led Central Region sales growth, boosting territory revenue through increased business with Midwest-based Top 20 advertisers
Doremus has promoted Joanna Berke, senior VP-account director, to senior VP-director of client services. During her 11-year career at the Omnicom Group business-communications company, Ms. Berke has led accounts including ACE Group, Bank of America and Office Depot. She also managed the partnership between Doremus and Point One Percent, an agency that creates messages to reach high-net-worth individuals. Prior to Doremus, Ms. Berke worked at Arrow Communications in Belgium.
