Dick Johnson, previously president of BBDO Detroit, has been promoted to chairman and chief creative officer. John Hammond, formerly executive vice president, was named president and CEO, and Executive Vice President David Jones has been named vice chairman.

Allan Dib and Chris Siminski of BBDO Detroit were promoted from account executives to senior account executives on the agency's Dodge account. Dib will be responsible for providing product information support for the agency's creative groups. Siminski will be responsible for ensuring accuracy in Dodge Truck advertising.

George Murphy was named general marketing manager for Ford Division. Murphy came to Ford from GE Lighting in Cleveland, where he was vice president of worldwide product management. His responsibilities include the development and implementation of marketing strategies and programs for all Ford cars and trucks sold in the United States.

John Clarey and John Stewart have been promoted to senior vice presidents and associate creative directors at Campbell-Ewald on the agency's Chevrolet truck account. The two are responsible for creative on Chevy truck brands. Clarey was a vice president and art supervisor, and Stewart held the title of vice president-associate creative director.

PentaCom, the national media planning and buying agency for DaimlerChrysler, has named Ellen Archer vice president and associate director of print and out-of-home buying. Archer previously was associate media director on the General Motors corporate account at N.W. Ayer. Archer will negotiate and buy print and outdoor advertising for various DaimlerChrysler brands.

Amy Lauter has been appointed client service administrator at J.R. Thompson Co. in Farmington Hills, Mich., a marketing and communications firm. Lauter will work on the firm's Dodge Motorsports account and its involvement in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.

Also at J.R. Thompson, Fiona McKenna has been promoted to client service executive, and Kimberly Sieszputowski has been named client service administrator. Both women will be working on the Dodge Car and Truck business and Viper Club of America activities.

Ross Roy Communications has added "CEO" to President Tim Copacia's title. The agency, a subsidiary of BBDO Worldwide, handles integrated and consumer-directed marketing communications for DaimlerChrysler, including advertising, merchandising, direct marketing and telemarketing.

Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc. has named Veronica Pollard vice president of external affairs. Pollard will oversee media and investor relations, corporate advertising, philanthropic activities and interactive/direct mail iniatives. She was most recently vice president of corporate public relations for entertainment giant ABC Inc.


Mercedes-Benz of North America Inc. dumped Lowe & Partners/SMS from its estimated $100 million creative advertising account in favor of Merkley Newman Harty, a small New York agency. Merkley Newman is part of Diversified Agency Services, a division of Omnicom Group Inc.

But the firing is not without controversy. Interpublic, parent company of Lowe & Partners, filed a lawsuit New York in February against its former chairman, Marvin Sloves, seeking a restraining order that would prevent Sloves from stealing Lowe clients and employees. Lowe also is seeking $24 million in damages from Sloves in a filing with the American Arbitration Association.

A New York Supreme Court judge denied the request for a restraining order, but the dispute still is in arbitration.

Carmichael Lynch of Minneapolis was awarded the estimated $10 million advertising account for Porsche Cars North America Inc., replacing Goody, Silverstein & Partners, which resigned the account in January.
