Jill Botway, formerly executive vice president and director of marketing for Interpublic Group of Cos.' Initiative Media North America, assumes the title and responsibilities previously held by Mike Drake, who retired in December 2002.
According to the agency, Ms. Botway
Ms. Botway is the daughter of Cliff Botway, founder of the the Botway Group, a midsize media buying agency based in New York that had handled the bulk of the Unilever's national and local TV media buying business in the U.S. In 2000, Botway Group was acquired by Initiative (then called Western Initiative Media Worldwide) in a bid to gain leverage in a review for Unilever's consolidated $700 million media business. The gambit did not pay off; WPP Group's MindShare took the prize and Initiative was left with a Botway Group that was a shell of its former self.
Ms. Botway joined Botway Group in 1990 as chief legal counsel and six years later became CEO of the media buying business. She moved with the shop to Initiative, along with her father and Botway's former president, Arthur Schreibman, who became Initiative's executive vice president and director of national broadcast. Last year, Mr. Schreibman stepped down from that position. Mr. Botway retired in 2001.
