The position is new for the office. PHD is a full-service media agency. The Detroit office primarily services DaimlerChrysler vehicle brands Jeep, Dodge, Jeep, Mercedes and Mitsubishi. Mr. O'Malley will report to Steve Grubbs, CEO of PHD USA.

Mr. O'Malley, 52, has been a consultant since last year. Previously, he was president of WPP Group's J. Walter Thompson in Detroit and Houston from 2001 through 2003. At JWT, he led the agency's work on Ford Motor Co., Shell and Dominos.
"Mike is an experienced leader and outstanding strategic thinker who brings enormous experience in the automotive category," Mr. Grubbs said. "He has managed agencies in Detroit. He has worked on the client side of the car business."
Prior to JWT, Mr. O'Malley was general manager of General Motor Corp.'s Cadillac division, where he worked on Buick, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, Pontiac and GMC.
