Sales down for quarter
Quarterly same-store sales have fluctuated at Pizza Hut since the third quarter 2000, with the most recent quarter ended Sept. 7 down 1% on lower transactions. Same-store sales in the prior quarter were flat. Comparable monthly sales for October were up 5%.

As sales have sputtered, the Dallas-based Yum Brands' unit has shuffled management. In October, Pizza Hut hired Tom James as chief marketing officer, succeeding Randy Gier, who in August took the chief marketing post at Yum Restaurants International.

Mr. Rawlings joined Pizza Hut in 1997 from Omnicom Group's DDB Worldwide, Dallas, where he was president when then Pizza Hut owner PepsiCo spun off the its restaurant chains. He had worked for many years on PepsiCo's Frito-Lay business at Omnicom-owned Tracy Locke Partnership, Dallas.

Omnicom's BBDO Worldwide, New York, handles Pizza Hut advertising.
