Rob Jacobson Appointed Head of Marketing for Discovery's Planet Green

Rob Jacobson has been named senior VP-marketing for Planet Green, Discovery Communications' brand that is focused on the environment and sustainable living. In his new position, he will oversee Planet Green's marketing, branding and research strategy and work to extend the brand to other platforms, including online, video on demand and mobile. Mr. Jacobson joins Planet Green from Lifetime Networks, where he was senior VP-executive creative director, responsible for the launch of "Army Wives." Previously, he was exec VP-creative director of G-Whiz Entertainment and senior VP-creative director of Ogilvy & Mather.

Wanda Gierhart was appointed senior VP-chief marketing officer of the Neiman Marcus Group. She was previously president-CEO of TravelSmith, a travel-apparel and -accessory retailer. Before that she was exec VP-chief marketing and merchandising officer of Design Within Reach, and spent eight years with Limited Stores, where she advanced to exec VP-CMO.

Display-advertising provider Teracent tapped Jay VanDerzee as VP-sales, East. Most recently Mr. VanDerzee held several sales roles with Yahoo, including strategic account director of field sales, where he handled clients such as Intel, Nokia, Sony and Samsung. He also was head of sales for Yahoo's U.S. Hispanic business.

Elisabeth Baker and Tom Platoni have joined advertising and public-relations agency Allied as VP-creative client services and VP-creative director, respectively. The two will be based in New York and extend the company's creative-marketing-services offerings. Ms. Baker was most recently VP-marketing at the Weinstein Co., and previously oversaw marketing and creative at Miramax Films. She has led campaigns for films such as "The Reader," "Vicky Christina Barcelona" and "Chicago." Mr. Platoni also comes from the Weinstein Co., where he was VP-print creative, overseeing the creative campaigns for releases including "Zack and Miri Make a Porno" and "The Great Debaters."

Mobile-advertising network Millennial Media selected Carl Wartzack as senior VP-networks. Mr. Wartzack brings to the position more than 15 years of senior executive experience. Prior to joining Millennial Media, he was chief operating officer of DigitalSports, where he led all advertising sales, operations and content development. Additionally, he has held senior management positions with Yahoo, Advertising.com, Washington Post Newsweek Interactive and Bell Atlantic.

Rob Hendrickson has been named VP-marketing and e-media at Morris Communications Co. National Magazine Group, a new position. Mr. Hendrickson spent eight years as a creative director and strategy mogul for AccessCreative.com, where he worked with Blockbuster, GameStop, XM Satellite Radio, Sony and GiantLion.com. Mr. Hendrickson will be responsible for strategic direction in multiple media for 13 specialty publications.

Ignited has hired Brian Mulford as exec VP-digital. Mr. Mulford most recently served as chief information and product technology officer at Regulus, an outsourced provider of consumer-payment processing for Fortune 50 companies. While there, he led the development and launch of electronic product lines for companies such as American Express, AT&T, T-Mobile and Capital One. Prior to that, Mulford held chief technology officer positions with SourceLink, a top-10 direct interactive agency, and for S&P 500 Fidelity National Information Services/Financial. Ignited, an independent agency, counts as its clients Sony Electronics Latin America, NBC Universal Motion Pictures, L.A. Weekly and the U.S. Army, among others.
