A Sharper Image spokeswoman said the seller of fancy, innovative gizmos spends some $60 million a year on marketing, including $35 million for the 70 million catalogs it produces each year; $22 million on TV infomercials; and $2.5 million on radio advertising, along with e-mail and other direct mail efforts.

Ms. Dinkelacker was hired to help the company manage those marketing opportunities, the spokeswoman said.
