Energy BBDO has named Tim Pontarelli senior VP-group creative director, responsible for leading integrated marketing for its Frito-Lay business. Mr. Pontarelli joins Energy BBDO after spending 20 years at Leo Burnett, where he started as a copywriter for United Airlines and worked his way up to become exec VP-executive creative director leading the Hallmark account. During his time at Burnett, his clients included Kellogg's, Miller Lite, Heinz and McDonald's. His accumulated accolades included an Emmy, 10 Cannes Lions and many CLIO, Effie and Hugo awards for work on Hallmark and Allstate, among other brands.
Conde Nast Entertainment Group has appointed Maurie Perl as senior VP-media and communications. Ms. Perl will manage all aspects of media relations, digital communications and publicity. She was most recently Conde Nast senior VP-brand communications and, previously, senior VP-corporate communications group. She joined Conde Nast in 1992 and worked at Vanity Fair and The New Yorker before moving into corporate communications in 1998. Earlier in her career, she worked in the broadcast, home-video and cable-TV industry, and held positions at E! Entertainment, ABC News, PBS, Nickelodeon and MTV , where she helped launch the communications team. Ms. Perl is the recipient of the Matrix Award in Public Relations and has been named to the Advertising Age Marketing 100.
John Driscoll has joined Bonnier Corp. as VP-corporate sales. Mr. Driscoll brings more than two decades of sales and marketing experience to the position, including 15 years in the publishing industry. He held a variety of positions during the course of a long tenure at Car and Driver and Road & Track, ultimately serving as senior VP-chief brand officer and publisher. Most recently, he was senior VP-partnership development at motor-sports agency Just Marketing International, part of the WPP network. While at JMI, he forged relationships with new clients, including Nissan, Vizio, Continental AG, Mazda and Farmers Insurance. Julie Shumaker has been named VP-North American sales at Zynga. Ms. Shumaker joins from RockYou, where she was senior VP-general manager, managing operations and sales of the social-advertising platform. Before that she was senior VP-sales and marketing at mobile-media company 4Info, where she drove brand-advertising revenue, marketing and PR efforts, and oversaw the acquisition of Butter, a mobile-marketing firm that connects brands and apps for content sponsorships. Earlier in her career, she led the advertising sales organization for Electronic Arts and spearheaded sales on fifaworldcup.com at Yahoo. Ms. Shumaker, who was recognized in Ad Age 's 2005 "Women to Watch" list, is a pioneer in the concept of games as an ad platform.
Steve Chavez, executive creative director for Buick at Leo Burnett's Detroit office, is taking over as the agency's General Motors global ECD, succeeding Peter McHugh. Mr. Chavez will oversee creative strategy for Buick, GMC, ACDelco and the Certified Service division. His experience includes creative leadership at Doner, Detroit, for Mazda and Saatchi & Saatchi, Los Angeles on Toyota.
SnagFilms, a distributor and platform for independent films, announced two senior-management additions: D. Scott Karnedy as chief revenue officer, a newly created position, and Jon Landa as senior VP-ad sales. Mr. Karnedy, who will be based in the New York office, most recently served as chief sales officer-exec VP for Premiere Retail Networks. He previously held senior sales positions at XM Satellite Radio, AOL Time Warner , CBS Radio and Clear Channel. Mr. Landa, based in Los Angeles, also comes from PRN, where he was senior VP. He has also held senior ad-sales positions at ReelzChannel, CSTV: College Sports Television, Lifetime Television, ESPN and E!
