TOP MARKETING SPOT UNFILLED AT AT&T WIRELESS

Unique Position Goes Begging After Two Month Search

By Published on .

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- Even as the unemployment rate rises, some positions aren't easily filled.

Case in point: The search for a senior vice president of marketing at AT&T Wireless continues after two months, following the promotion of former marketing chief Kim Whitehead into a business development role.

Unique combination
What's taking so long? One significant factor, say recruiters at Korn/Ferry International, the search firm handling the assignment, is that Redmond, Wash.-based AT&T Wireless are looking for an executive with a unique combination of skills: solid marketing experience gained at consumer product giants like Procter & Gamble, Sears or Nike. In addition, the candidate should also have some background in telecommunications marketing.

A representative for the Redmond, Wash.-based company confirmed that a search is ongoing and said new spots from WPP Group's Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide will air despite the marketing vacancy.
