Tom Florio has been named CEO of Advanstar Fashion Group. Advanstar, one of the world's largest producers of trade shows and events, is restructuring its fashion and retail groups, and Mr. Floria will be charged with leading fashion trade shows such as MAGIC and PROJECT. Mr. Florio, a 25-year veteran of Conde Nast, left his post as group publisher of Vogue in 2010, and went on to become a senior adviser for IMG Worldwide's fashion operations. Additionally, Chris DeMoulin has taken on added responsibilities at Advanstar as exec VP-customer development and president of licensing.
Former Newsweek/Daily Beast publisher Ray Chelstowski has joined Digital First Media as senior VP-national sales. He will oversee all national print and digital sales for the company, which jointly manages MediaNews Group and the Journal Register Co. In his previous post, Mr. Chelstowski delivered 40 new accounts to Newsweek within 40 days of the magazine's relaunch in conjunction with the Daily Beast website. He was also publisher during the turnarounds of both Entertainment Weekly and Rolling Stone magazines.
NBC Universal has promoted Krishan Bhatia to exec VP-digital strategy and operations for its Entertainment & Digital Networks and Integrated Media division. Most recently, Mr. Bhatia was senior VP-advertising strategy and operations for Comcast Digital Entertainment. In this newly expanded role, he will have overall responsibility for strategy, business operations, business development and partnerships. Mr. Bhatia joined Comcast Corp.in 2005 and was a founding executive team member of Comcast Interactive Media. Prior to Comcast , he was a principal in Booz Allen Hamilton's global media and entertainment practice in New York, where he spent nine years advising top management of leading media and entertainment companies.
Gustavo Lauria has joined The Vidal Partnership as managing partner-chief creative officer. Most recently, Mr. Lauria was creative director at La Comunidad in Miami. During his eight years there, he produced award-winning work for brands such as MTV , Best Buy, VW, Disney, Corona and Modelo. He is president of the U.S. Hispanic Creative Circle. Last year, TVP became the agency of record for Rémy Martin's U.S. market work.
Eve Lo has been named chief knowledge officer of Group M China. She will lead Group M Knowledge and oversee initiatives at Group M China, including research, data management, knowledge-sharing solutions and consultation services. Most recently, Ms. Lo was head of Insight Lab, a management-consulting firm providing brand consultancy and group building. Before Insight Lab, she held several leadership roles in the Greater China region, including VP at Leo Burnett, Taipei; head of strategic planning and client services director at JWT, Taiwan; and executive business director and strategic planning director at Ogilvy & Mather, Taiwan.
Mindshare China has appointed Ming Liao managing director-head of business planning. Mr. Laio was head of marketing analytics at Unilever China before joining Mindshare. He also spent time at Acxiom in China as director-analytic consulting. He was a senior manager at Nielsen and a senior statistician at IMS Health in the U.S., working across sectors such as pharmaceuticals, fast-moving consumer goods, retail, e-commerce and financial services.
Global digital and direct agency MRM has announced several appointments in its global senior leadership team. Andy Jacobs, exec VP-chief technology officer, will become exec VP-CTO and director of global partnerships; Dave Hohman, exec VP-director of performance, Americas, will become exec VP-global performance director; Tim Cunningham, managing director for MRM's San Francisco office, has been promoted to chief strategy officer; Patricia Berns, worldwide account director, will assume the role of managing director for MRM's San Francisco office; and Andy Queen, chief financial officer, Eastern Region (U.S.), will become exec VP-director of commercial operations, the Americas.
