Microsoft Corp.'s new Sidewalk city guide Web service snagged a handful of major launch advertisers-Bank of America, Barnes & Noble, BMW of North America, Citibank, Club Med, United Airlines and Visa International. Although rates are undisclosed, advertisers are signing one-year commitments. The guide bows in Seattle in March and rolls to 15 cities worldwide by yearend, including New York, San Francisco and Sydney.
IDG's Nvolve secures backing
International Data Group's spin-off Nvolve, a direct marketing company launching affinity communities on the Web, is expected to announce backing from software company Broderbund and venture capital group the Mayfield Fund next week. Nvolve's first product will be a gaming site called Arcadium.
AT&T to adjust WorldNet pricing
AT&T WorldNet Service will on March 31 end a promotion offering five free hours per month of Internet access to its long-distance customers. A new plan for long-distance users will offer $4.95 per month for five hours of access and an additional $2.50 for each hour thereafter.
New group for local Net advertisers
