City of Chicago this month unveiled plans for Chicago2001, a three-year millennial celebration, including a New Year's Eve bash at the McCormick Place convention center honoring more than 400 "ordinary" people from 223 countries around the world who have been invited by Mayor Richard Daley and the Department of Cultural Affairs. Sponsors include Hyatt hotels and carriers Air India, American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Japan Air Lines, Swissair and Turkish Airlines.
Glamour inked a deal with Nike as the first-ever sponsor of of the magazine's 42nd "Top 10 College Winners" feature appearing this October. The event honors 10 outstanding college students chosen nationwide. Nike also is backing a special four-page promotional section in Glamour's July issue spotlighting past contest winners from the 1990s.
Tracfone, the pay-as-you-go cellular telephone service, entered the sports marketing arena with its sponsorship of Nascar's Team Sabco. Driver Jeff Green will pilot the No. 1 Tracfone Chevrolet Monte Carlo at seven Winston Cup events; Sterling Marlin will drive the car in three Busch Series races.
Oldsmobile this summer will sponsor the nine-event "Oldsmobile Alero Beach Volleyball Series" in partnership with USA Volleyball and the U.S. Olympic Committee.
