NEW YORK, NY (February 3, 2014) -- Grey today was named Advertising Age's Agency of the Year as part of its influential Agency A-List, the publication's annual ranking of the nation's best advertising and marketing agencies.
Evaluating agencies based on creativity, financial performance, and their ability to positively impact a client's business, Advertising Age selected the year's ten best agencies, as well as the most outstanding Creative Agency, Media Agency, International Agency, Multicultural Agency, and B-To-B Agency.
Grey received the top spot after taking big risks that produced substantial payoffs for clients including Procter & Gamble, Canon, DirecTV, Pfizer, and NFL. Founded in 1917, the agency is part of WPP and has headquarters in New York City and San Francisco.
Grey leads the list of the 10 best agencies in the country:
- Grey (WPP)
- Mullen (Interpublic Group of Cos.)
- 360i (Dentsu)
- Anomaly (MDC Partners)
- 72andSunny (MDC Partners)
- Weber Shandwick (Interpublic Group)
- 180LA (Omnicom Group)
- LatinWorks (Omnicom Group)
- R/GA (Interpublic Group of Cos.)
"The Advertising Age Agency A-List represents the best in the business," said Abbey Klaassen, Ad Age's associate publisher-editorial and audience. "These are agencies that are growing, winning the hottest accounts, innovating on the agency model, producing incredible work and, most importantly, driving their clients' bottom lines."
Other highlights of the 2014 Agency A-List include:
- Media Agency of the Year: Carat, a unit of Aegis, for the second consecutive year

- International Agency of the Year: Brazil-based agency Africa, a unit of Grupo ABC
- Multicultural Agency of the Year: Miami-based Alma
- B-To-B Agency of the Year: Ogilvy, a unit of WPP
"At a time of major transition in the agency space, identifying the leaders among all agency disciplines has never been more important," said Klaassen. "It identifies for both marketers and agency peers the shops defining the future of the business and what the industry must do to survive: innovate, think creatively and become essential business partners to their clients."
Each year, the Ad Age editors also highlight a group of agencies they believe should be on marketers' radar. The 2014 list of Standouts includes: Pereira & O'Dell (Grupo ABC), Deutsch (Interpublic Group of Cos.), Vitro (MDC Partners), KBS+, Rokkan (Publicis Group), Huge, CAA, Barton F.
