August account moves picked up as Omnicom scored first on wins including Safeway and New Zealand dairy marketer Fonterra, according to Bear Stearns' Alexia Quadrani. Year to date, Omnicom is second, behind WPP.
Focus on: TRIBUNE CO. (TRB)
Tribune Co. stock jumped after the late-September announcement that it would explore "alternatives for creating additional value," setting the stage for a possible company or asset sale or restructuring. TRB is up from April's bottom ($27.09, lowest point since '98) but trades at barely half its late-'99 peak ($60.88). TRB sold at $37.19 before its '00 deal to buy Times Mirror. TRB in 2005 generated 73% of its revenue from newspapers; the rest came from broadcasting and entertainment.
