July measured U.S. ad spending rose 3.7%, according to TNS Media Intelligence, better than the second-quarter gain (2.9%) and ahead of the 12-month core inflation rate (2.7%). Magazines showed healthy gains; newspapers lost ground; internet (excluding paid search) jumped 17.4%.
Focus on: GENERAL MILLS (GIS)
Oct. 31 is the five-year mark for General Mills' $10 B acquisition of Pillsbury Co., which boosted GIS annual sales 85%. GIS is near its September all-time high; it lags the market vs. '01 but has outperformed year to date 2006. For fiscal '07, it looks for low-single-digit sales growth and EPS of $3.03-$3.08.
