Tied to a website at diydemocracy.org, where the ads could be downloaded, "DIY Democracy was created simply to get people to vote," explains McKinney + Silver. "The idea behind the posters is summed up by the tag: 'It's your voice or theirs.' The first headline makes a frank statement about a major election issue, then, by changing the punctuation, the second sentence reverses the sentiment. We thought it was a compelling way to show what happens when people don't vote."
