Books: Fresh Dialogue Four

Fresh Dialogue Four
New from Princeton Architectural Press (www.papress.com) is a profusely illustrated $24.95 paperback, Fresh Dialogue Four: New Voices in Graphic Design, which brings together the work of three young graphic designers who have been selected as participants in the Fresh Dialogue series by the New York Chapter of the AIGA. Taking the word "spine" as its theme, the book examines the worlds of publishing and self-publishing from the perspective of the graphic designer. The three protagonists: photographer/designer/publisher Jason Fulford, co-founder of the nonprofit imprint J-L Books; art director/designer/author Peter Buchanan-Smith, former art director of The New York Times Op-Ed page and co-founder of the design firm/publishing company Monday Morning; and illustrator/art director/designer/publisher Leanne Shapton, the other co-founder of J-L Books. Seen here are some pieces from the book, leading off with a Shapton illustration.
