PHOTOGRAPHY: An Ali Retrospective at the Magnum Festival
Published on .
June 13-July 29 at New York's 401 Projects, "Magnum Group: Muhammad Ali" is curated by Ali's daughter Maryum "May May" Ali and his longtime manager and friend Gene Kilroy. Billed as an exhibition that "mingles iconic images of the Champ with rare glimpses of the man behind the myth," it's part of Magnum Festival '07, commemorating the 60th anniversary of Magnum Photos. A portion of proceeds from all print sales at the show will be donated to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. Seen here are four images from "Magnum Group: Muhammad Ali": two by Thomas Hoepker, shot in Chicago in 1966, courtesy Thomas Hoepker/Magnum Photos; followed by two by Abbas, shot at the 1974 championship fight with George Foreman in Kinshasa, Zaire, courtesy Abbas/Magnum Photos.
