New York's School of Visual Arts celebrates the great graphic artist and New Yorker
cover maestro Saul Steinberg, who died in 1999, with: "Steinberg: An Intimate View of his Art and World," Feb. 9-March 13, at the Visual Arts Museum, 209 East 23rd St. Reception: Feb. 9, 6-8p.m. The exhibition will feature a selection of drawings, posters and other printed matter that Steinberg gave to his studio assistant, Anton van Dalen, who is curating the show and who worked with Steinberg for 30 years. "Often," van Dalen recalls, being Steinberg's assistant meant just being there "as a listening ear to his monologues, for which he was renowned, and which spoke of his curiosity of the world and of his original critique of it."
