Chank Diesel, T26 and Veer

Published on .

Here's something a little off the beaten type path: Minneapolis font designer Chank Diesel and AIGA Minnesota announce the availability of three new fonts, created by AIGA Minnesota 2003 Design Camp attendees. Mr. Twiggy, Twigdancer and Sauertwiggo are organic fonts created entirely with materials that campers found around the grounds of Grand View Lodge in Nisswa, Minn., during the October 2003 event. Diesel challenged campers to use their creativity to create found-art letterforms, using only materials in the area, like leaves, twigs, flower petals, cigarette butts, rocks, fish bones and wild berries. The found objects were arranged and mounted on canvas boards, which were photographed and used to create the new Design Camp fonts, available both as RGB jpeg files and traditional True Type fonts. See www.chank.com for details.

Among T26 Digital Type Foundry's latest font releases: Jamie Stolarski's Mammoth; Amondo Szegi's Melico; Daniel Janssen's "Op Art styled" KAA; Lee Fasciani's Paggio, "a headline family inspired by waiting for the train in Rimini, Italy," and Astro; and Gabor Kothay's new hairline typefaces, Gnosis and Oceanus. New type offerings from Veer: Cactus by Alias is "a condensed geometric sans-serif face with four weights, plus italics of each." Candombe, exclusive to Veer and the Umbrella collection, is a "joyfully dancing script" by Alejandro Paul and Angel Koziupa. In addition, Veer introduces Shock & Awe, a duo of new faces from Virus type and Jonathan Barnbrook. See www.veer.com for details.
