Not Off the Spiewak Rack
Last week in New York at a downtown gallery called The Apartment, outerwear maker Spiewak hosted an unusual "Rock the Coat" exhibition with Rock the Vote and Vapors magazine. The show featured more than a dozen artist/designers who created one-of-a-kind parkas to raise awareness and money for national voter registration initiatives. The customized coats were subsequently listed on eBay for a charity auction, which closes tomorrow, with all proceeds going to Rock the Vote. Artists on hand included: Dalek, David Flores, Pisa73, Slick, B0130, Microbo, David Lynn, Mysterious Al, Karim Rashid, Marco, Freaklub, David Gensler, Tasek, Jason Bass, and Buff Monster. From the gallery lit: "Spiewak and Vapors believe that the current intersection of politics into the personal realm has sparked an acute dialogue amongst artists, writers, filmmakers — in short, all citizens — and this exhibition and auction is a way to amplify this."
