Although Epoch saw the departure of a pair of key talents--director Matt Aselton and former exec producer Mal Ward went on to open their own shop, Arts & Sciences, the company turned out many memorable moments in 2011. Newcomer Matt Dillmore, longtime assistant to MJZ's Tom Kuntz, broke out on his own to direct a "9 Step Ritual" for Stella Artois," series of lessons for Guinness and some far out moments for Dish Network, out of BFG 9000.
Creative-turned director Greg Bell toyed with many a genre for Old Navy, in a campaign featuring the Corporado man and a Doo-Shay of a guy. Justin Anderson merged sexy and scary in his horrifying short for Agent Provocateur, while Phil Morrison was on top of his game on AT&T's "Spider," featuring the funniest freakout of the year, as well as on continuing efforts for Allstate's Mayhem campaign, out of Leo Burnett Chicago.
Epoch also found a new voice in Everynone. The team first hit our radars with a pair of gorgeously shot and cryptic films for NPR's Radiolab broke out in the commercials world, in a big way, directing "Everyday Race" spot for Powerade out of Mother London and one of our top campaigns of 2011, Droga5's "Day One" campaign for Prudential, which captured the intimate, moving experiences of retirees on their first days out of the work force.
