Smartwater's campaign starring Jennifer Aniston, directed by Alek Keshishian and created through agency AR New York, was an example of a celebrity-led campaign that made really clever use of the star's fame, rather than just slapping a face on a product. The spot became a viral hit and produced great PR, arguably for both brand and star.
Scott Corbett's spot for pain relief balm Bengay, through Mother New York, was a hilarious take on interpretative dance in a category that's usually dominated by dull product ads.
For Applegate and agency Taxi New York, Brendan Gibbons directed a series of spots including Mooscles, that featured suspect animals undergoing an "interview" from concerned mothers, highlighting the brand's organic credentials.
This year saw Station sign a crop of new directors including Seyi Peter-Thomas (an MTV veteran and featured at Cannes in the Saatchi New Directors' Showcase), Mark Gilbert, Gabriel Olson, and Josh Soskin. Directorial duo Borderline's "Simon Killer" premiered at 2012 Sundance Film Festiva, and Borderline's Sean Durkin is currently in pre-production for "Janis", a Janis Joplin biopic with Broadway star Nina Arianda.
