Passion Pictures' New York studio has hired Saschka Unseld as creative director, and as a director on Passion's roster for worldwide commercial representation. Unseld joins from Pixar where he wrote and directed the short film "The Blue Umbrella", which preceded 'Monsters University' in theater screenings around the world. During his time at Pixar, he also worked as cinematographer on features including "Toy Story 3,""Cars 2" and "Brave." Born in Hamburg, he set up animation company Studio Soi, which earned Oscar and BAFTA nominations for short film "The Gruffalo," before he joined Pixar.
Acne has signed director Tim Hamilton to its roster. Hamilton has helmed and co-written comedic films including "Truth in Advertising," a Cannes International Film Festival selection in 2000, and its 2001 sequel "The Reel Truth," which was commissioned to open the prestigious Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors Showcase at the Cannes Lions festival. Born in Canada, he has worked on TV, film, commercials, and music videos and shot spots for brands including Bud Light, Lexus, and Verizon.
Whitehouse Post has promoted L.A.-based Brandon Porter to editor. Born in Memphis, Porter worked for Lab 601 in Atlanta then moved to Beast in L.A., before joining Whitehouse Post in 2010. He has worked on campaigns for Adidas, GE, HP, BMW and Southwest Airlines. Recent work includes cutting "Ghost Wave" for HP and "Small Plates," a web film for the New York Times.
Hooligan, a post-production boutique that specializes in artistic offline editing and visual effects, has hired Paul Marangos as senior visual effects flame artist. Marangos has over 20 years of post-production experience, including eight years at The Mill. His first projects with Hooligan include commercials for Citibank and Match.com, and director-photographer Indrani's short film "Crescendo," curated by Pepsi in conjunction with the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Production company Comma is adding a Los Angeles facility to Particle, its seven-year-old independent post audio and sound design studio in Chicago, appointing Eddie Alonso to head it up. Prior to joining Comma, Alonso spent 11 years at CP&B, most recently as senior composer/sound designer. There, he worked on campaigns for Microsoft, MetLife, Ikea, Gap, Burger King, Vitaminwater, Jose Cuervo, Old Navy, Coke Zero, Volkswagen, Best Buy, and Kraft.
CVLT Production (aka Cult Production) has named Jeff Beckerman as executive producer. Beckerman will lead the company's full-service post capabilities. He was the founder and executive producer at Bond, which specialized in editorial, animation, motion graphics, CGI and visual effects. Since Bond closed in 2010, Beckerman has been an executive producer at ShootersNYC and Prodigious NYC, and started freelancing at Cult in August 2014. He first worked with Cult on Ralph Lauren's "Polo Tech Shirt" for the 2014 US Open.
