Los Angeles production company Wondros has signed British director and photographer James Gooding to its roster. Gooding has directed work for brands Allianz, Samsung, Honda and Toshiba; for agencies including Droga 5, CP&B, Grey and Wieden & Kennedy; and for musical artists Dirty Vegas, U.N.K.L.E, Timbaland, RZA, Method Man, Chris Cornell and Coldplay. His photographs have appeared in such publications as The Sunday Times Magazine, The Sunday Telegraph Magazine, Fast Company, Esquire and GQ. His commercial directorial debut, a multimedia campaign for Brother Europe, was shortlisted at Cannes Lions and he won a Gold at Creative Circle in 2013 for his work with Grey for the British Heart Foundation.
RSA Films has signed director Andreas Roth to its roster of filmmakers. Roth began his career working with German production company Markenfilm and then spent six months with Jung von Matt. His online viral ad for Dirt Devil won the Young Director Award in Cannes; he went on to win the YDA Award again in 2013 in the broadcast category for his work with Herbaria. Roth received a scholarship for the UCLA Film Academy Master Class, and in 2014 he graduated from Film Academy Baden-Württemberg with a diploma for commercial directing. He is also developing a feature film. His latest work, entitled "Sea Legend," for Oceana, will premiere at the San Sebastian Film Festival.
Nice Shoes has added executive producer Ed Koenig and senior colorist Sal Malfitano to its team. Koenig joins from MPC, where he was instrumental in building out the company's U.S. color department as executive producer. Malfitano joins Nice Shoes with more than eight years of color experience with The Mill. There, he collaborated with Lady Gaga on her music video "Applause" and with Anomaly to deliver the Emmy-nominated Super Bowl spot "A Hero's Welcome" for Budweiser.
Recently launched London production house Squire has signed Deane Thrussell and Rodney Rascona to its roster. Former BBC editor Thrussell has helmed global campaigns for Aston Martin, Barclays, Pepsi, Land Rover, Xbox and Jaguar while photographer and director Rascona's advertising portfolio features photography for brands such as DHL, Hyatt and Rockwell. His most recent project is a short film for FH Congo/USAID and he is developing documentaries in Latin America and East Africa.
Newly launched production house Looker has hired Sophie Gold as director of business development. Gold joins from the New York office of Engage & Experience, where she was executive producer. Prior to that she was with Quintessentially TV (QTV), an internationally based production and production-service shop, as managing director-U.S. Gold will be responsible for building the Looker sales force and will also look after sister companies The Station, which offers post production, and The Writers Room, a collection of comedy performers and writers available to collaborate with agencies.
Julie Stone joins advertising and content production firm Driver Media as executive producer. Stone has spent more than a decade at Victoria's Secret, where she was director of broadcast TV and web video content, as well as creative director of broadcast for parent company Limited Brands. She has also worked with several other fashion, beauty and personal care brands, including Ralph Lauren, Neutrogena, Bath & Bodyworks, Revlon and Michael Kors.
Radical.Media has signed Omar Mullick and Bassam Tariq for advertising and branded content representation. The directing duo are known for their documentary "These Birds Walk" and recently directed "Leap of Faith" for Image Nation Abu Dhabi. They are wrapping on a campaign, developing a feature film with the Toronto Film Lab and will be participating in this year's TEDGlobal in Rio.
Lenny Beckerman, formerly of Anonymous Content and Hello & Company, has joined production company Uber Content as exec VP-film/TV. Beckerman heads the newly launched film/TV division, which launches with a development fund that will allow Uber to seek out and secure potential properties to develop. Since 2011, Beckerman has been head of film and TV at Hello & Company and prior to that worked at Anonymous Content with Steve Golin for 11 years, where he helped many of the roster's commercial and music video directors break into features.
Brand New School has hired Nellie Chung as VP-strategy and business development. Chung most recently served as VP-client solutions at broadcast communications and digital production company Synaptic Digital. She has also worked at Magnet Media, Vidicom, Nielsen and Encompass Media.
Director and animator Mikey Please is partnering with long time friend and collaborator Dan Ojari to form directing collective Parabella. Please released his short film "Marilyn Myller" (which won ADC Gold for Animation), which Ojari also worked on. Ojari has also worked on Please's film "The Eagleman Stag," and his own short "Slow Derek," which ran on the festival circuit in 2012. Parabella will be represented by Hornet in the US and Canada, Blinkink in the UK, and ChezEddy in France.
