Nissan's Rogue Meets Star Wars 'Rogue One' in New Ad

Nissan has a natural advantage among all the brands doing Star Wars marketing partnerships. That's because the name of the upcoming film, "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," just happens to match the name of Nissan's Rogue SUV.

The vehicle is featured in a new campaign Nissan unveiled today called "Battle Tested." A 30-second TV ad shows what a Nissan test facility would look like in a galaxy far, far away. The compact SUV dodges stormtroopers and rebel fighters and when a droid suddenly steps in front of the vehicle, it stops on a dime. This is meant to spotlight the Rogue's forward emergency braking with pedestrian detection.

The lead agency on the spot is TBWA/Chiat/Day, which created the spot with Lucasfilm.

"Showcasing Nissan's advanced driver assistance systems in a simulated Star Wars environment raises awareness for the robust technology offering on the newly refreshed Nissan Rogue in a very different way," Jeremy Tucker, VP-marketing communications & media at Nissan North America, said in a statement.

Nissan is also running a sweepstakes that gives fans a chance to attend the opening night screening of the movie in Hollywood. The film debuts in theaters on Dec. 16.

Nissan is one of five marketers that struck deals with Lucasfilm for co-branded promotional campaigns for the movie. The other marketers are Duracell, General Mills, Gillette, and Verizon.
