Fans of the pan-media graphical stylings of The Directors Bureau's Geoff McFetridge will have more to love as the director/graphic artist dips his beak into new broadcast work, as well as lending his design skills to textiles, watches, shoes and even dance. The designer/director's often humorous, sometimes oddly poignant work is showcased in a recently published Gasbook compendium (some pages are seen here), which brings together samplings of his designs as applied to surfaces such as textiles, T-shirts, furniture, posters and film. Among his better-known projects, McFetridge designed the titles for The Virgin Suicides and directed the acclaimed ESPN Winter X Games campaign of a few years ago, wherein careless extreme sporting animals get their cheerfully gruesome due. He also recently completed a spot for Japanese sake drink Jinro, for which he not only directed live-action scenes of a special Jinro party dance, but also created the dance itself. McFetridge's graphics skills led him to work with Nike on a new watch design, and he's now busy creating a prototype for a new Nike shoe design. Next up is a wallpaper design for Ligne Rosset and a speaking engagement at the Design Triennial at the Cooper Hewitt in New York, which features his work.
