WHAT'S THERE: This site isn't for the casual surfer, but it pays off if you've got some time.
First, take a walk through the basics of personal financial planning, all the way up to planning and managing a portfolio. The key feature is a "Portrait Planner" that asks for information about your current finances, helps you set some investment goals and tells a little about how John Hancock can help.
It works well (except for the minor problem of assuming that all the children you plan to send to college have been born already). You can choose to set up a user ID so you can store your information, or do the planner without. For the security-conscious, the site uses Netscape technology to secure the data. (This info isn't really made clear in the "Your Privacy" section of the site, however).
Hancock knows what its customers want and delivers it to them with no frills. Overall it's a solid, crisp site that has a lot to offer the would-be investor.
