Of course, they haven't been going at it alone; for a while now, In Style magazine has lent their brand and expertise to help the Recording Academy highlight its signature, eponymous brand of clothing. Last year this took the form of a large showcase where fashion-drunk pop stars were invited to sample from a variety of labels' offerings, including Grammy's. This year, the magazine and The Academy have stitched together a Victoria's Secret-style fashion show called GRAMMY Salute to Fashion, featuring the most successful musicians with clothing lines.
Janet Jackson producer Jimmy Jam will host the show and Rihanna -- who's nominated for Record of the Year, Song of the Year and four other awards -- will perform as designs from labels run by Beyonce, Jay-Z, Sean Combs (aka Diddy), Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Simpson and Justin Timberlake grace the runway.
It doesn't look like the show will be broadcast on TV, which seems unfortunate, but perhaps the organizers don't want to detract from Rihanna's performance at the Grammys, when she'll be backed up by a Prince's old band, once-again-reunited The Time.
It's also too bad Antony from Antony and the Johnsons wasn't invited to show off his newly designed dress for Yoox.com. The online boutique shop is planning more indie-musician designed pieces for the future.
