Old enough to drive? Like to draw? Listen to Snow Patrol?
Hey, where'd everybody go!?
Regardless of the turnout, 94.7 Alternative Portland is offering listeners a chance to design a cover for the (I'm guessing very) limited edition 7" single of Snow Patrol's "Shut Your Eyes." Entrants can paint, draw, animate or whatever they'd like, and the band will personally choose the winning cover, which will also become a "skin" for one lucky Toyota Scion XB. After the car and the single are unveiled at the Portland Auto Show in January, the winner will get to drive off with the custom car, and, with any luck, the disc too.
The consumer-generated contest is a clever triangulation for these three marketers and maybe will help the Scottish power-pop band forget all about losing to Amy Winehouse at the MTV Europe Music Awards yesterday.
Full disclosure: My 16-year-old brother drives a Scion with an iPod connection, and I wish I had it instead of my rusty '92 Toyota Previa minivan when I was his age. And our 52-year-old father likes Snow Patrol far more than we do.
