The original "girl power" group seems like a perfectly measured fit for a women's brand built upon confidence and sexiness. And I can imagine quite a few husbands grabbing it along with velour hoodies and terrycloth robes for their wives during the Christmas retail season.
But what puzzles me is whether it will alienate the group's guy fans, who, whether gay or straight, may be uncomfortable shopping at Victoria's Secret. I can still vividly recall the excruciating trips to Vicky's as a kid with my mom and sisters, waiting on stiff love seats and feeling like I had been captured by Viet Thong behind enemy lines. I still have a hard time setting foot in there.
Fortunately, for those squeamish fans who'd rather not hack through a brassiere jungle just to get a couple new Spicy tracks, the disc will also be available on the website and eventually almost everywhere come January 15. One can also watch the Spice Girls shaking their stuff during the Victoria Secret Fashion Show on December 4.
